For my second year of study at the Manchester Fashion Institute, I decided that to focus on Menswear. Since designing Menswear for the Fashion Production Unit in first year, I found that I designing menswear came naturally, I preferred it and enjoyed the challenge of designing for a male consumer. Therefore I decided to continue my degree on the Menswear Pathway, and it has been such fun and I strongly believe that menswear is more my aesthetic and more me.

During my second year of study, I was lucky enough to go on the November 2019 study trip to Amsterdam, Netherlands where we visited Denim City, the Fashion for Good Museum and the head office of Denham. This study trip was incredibly enlightening and interesting, as the Denim City gave us an in depth talk about sustainability in the denim industry, jean production cycle, and gave us demonstrations of construction techniques with different machinery, distressing denim, laser etching into denim, and showed us the different washes of denim. The demonstrations and talks were incredibly insightful, and made us realise the impact of the denim industry on the environment and made us consider how we can improve it. The Fashion for Good Museum showed us the journey of a T-Shirt, from raw materials to the final use, from innovation to impact. This was incredibly insightful, and the whole museum had brilliant, beautiful exhibitions of different garments. When visiting the head office of Denham, they gave us a tour of the facilities and delivered us a fabulous presentation, we also did a workshop in sketching different garments. Overall, the study trip to Amsterdam was truly inspiring; I left wanting to explore and experiment with different denim and new techniques, it gave me a greater understanding about sustainability and quality in garments.

In November 2019, I had the amazing experience of being 1 of the 5 candidates who was chosen from my university course to attend an interview at Sheffield Hallam University for the Ralph Lauren Summer Creative Internship. The presentation was incredibly insightful about Ralph Lauren and during the interview it was wonderful to discuss what made a CV and a design portfolio stand out. It was a fabulous experience, and I was incredibly proud and honoured to be part of it.

I did several projects where I was able to expand my skills and knowledge in garment construction, performance wear, knitwear and denim.

The 3 main larger projects from this year is the Urban Peloton, Churchill and the Woolmark Challenge 2020. I also created several smaller projects from this year which are more design base projects.

Overall, in each project I was determined to experiment and expand my knowledge in different technologies, fabrics and construction techniques. With each project I loved about these new techniques and construction and I am proud and thrilled with each outcome.
